Subject of the course content: Enabling technologies for optical networks. Client optical networks: IP, MPLS, GMPLS, Gigabit-Ethernet (GE), Storage-Area Networks (SAN). Wavelength Division Multiplexing (WDM) Networks. Optical layer, wavelength conversion, routing and wavelength assignment (RWA), light path design (LTD), QoS, traffic models. OTN standard.

Control and management of optical networks, performance and fault management, configuration management. Network survivability. Photonic switching, Optical Burst Switching (OBS), Optical Packet Switching (OPS).

Access networks: HFC, FTTH, FTTC. Passive optical networks (PON). EPON, GPON, WPON, WRPON. TDMA and WDMA access. Implementation.

Intelligent optical transport systems (on-board automotive networks, aeronautics). Optical networks for distributed antenna systems. Optical wireless systems.
